What to Expect of Your First Session
I like to think of the first counseling session as a two-way interview. I am learning from you what is going on in your life that has brought you here, as well as obtaining some general information about you. I want to ensure that I am equipped to help you reach your goals.
It is also a time for you to get a feel for me and what it would be like to work with me. Therapy involves many practical aspects of healing such as setting goals and objectives, but there is also a personal element to it. To some degree, the client and therapist should be able to “click” on some level. Our first session is a great time to explore any of your reservations or concerns. It is also a great time to answer any questions you may have.
